I'm a health coach, personal trainer and therapist at Rebalance Lifestyle.
For years I attempted to get into health and fitness because I knew I should. I wanted to be skinny (it was the era of super low rise jeans and washboard abs - hello Britney & Christina!), but I wasn't entirely sure how.
Every personal trainer or diet plan assumed I had a certain level of knowledge. I did not. Or gave me so little information that I had to pay each week to find out what to do next.
Even when someone reached their goal, they were encouraged to pay for a 'maintenance' plan. Paying someone to tell you how to eat FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE?!?
I’d buy a magazine with “what Jennifer Anniston eats” written on the front. I’ve tried Atkins, the cabbage soup diet, weight watchers, diet tea etc because they worked for other people but I couldn’t stick with it. As soon as I faced temptation or a change in routine I'd fall off the wagon again.
It seemed like everything started on step 5 and I didn’t know what steps 1-4 were. It felt like I was trying to do a jigsaw but I wasn’t allowed to see the picture on the box!
I decided to train as a personal trainer to understand what steps 1-4 were. There was a LOT of information in that course that was eye opening to me. I had no idea. With this knowledge, I was able to build my own fitness plan and diet that worked for me and my life, it included all my favourite things and didn’t involve giving up or being massively restricted. I didn’t have to quit my social life. I could live the life I wanted to live, while also managing my physical and mental health. It wasn’t an either or situation, I could have both.
So my mission is to provide a space, free from judgement, and empower people to take control of their own health and fitness by giving them the information they need.
